Blog 3
This is the last blog. I have learned so many things in this class. Although I could not participate in discussions as much as I hoped for, I enjoyed heated discussions on the discussion board. In week 9, we discussed about the digital divide. Sadly, there is a divide between genders in our society. Especially, IT field is dominated by male and women are less likely to be promoted as men. But time is changing. Look at this class! There are many women are already in IT field and others are trying to be there someday. I am very hopeful that the situation will improve for women at work place including IT field.
In week 10, we discussed about online identity. It was very interesting to know that many people have extended personality online. Some people have totally different identity online than real selves. It may be caused by pressure from friends that they have to act like “cool” or “popular”. But if people are talking to each other based on lies, what kind of relation is that? I am afraid of power of social networking ever than before. Whatever I put it there could be use against me in the future.
We discussed about robotics and artificial intelligence in week 11. I thought AI is belongs to Science Fiction, but it seem like it is very close to our society. If the robots with artificial intelligence started to fight in the war, it may change the course of the warfare. The machine is cheaper than human life, but the war with push of the buttons can even more dehumanize the actual war. I wonder how the machine with artificial intelligence can make ethical decisions. Future is unknown. However, the war is always brings destruction with or without robotics.
This week, we discussed about intercultural ethic. In terms of respecting others, people have hard time to accept religion that is not theirs. It is hard for me to understand religion since I don’t believe them. In history, many wars were caused by religious conflicts. It is so hard to overcome the difference between the religions because it is a root of people’s belief and it holds ethical principles.
At last, I am still confused and exhausted about ethical thought. Most of topics we had in the discussion were very controversial and interesting. It made think about my ethic, culture, and how I make ethical decision.
